Apple Picking in Gays Mills, Wisconsin

Toby and I have started a tradition of traveling up to Gays Mills, Wisconsin to see the beautiful fall foliage and pick some delicious apples. On our route, we like to stop at antique shops and local wineries. First, we start in Marquette, Iowa where we stop at the Schoolhouse Mall and Barr House Antiques & Gifts (this place is in the midst of selling their store, so I'm not sure how much longer they will stay open). A great winery to stop at is Eagles Landing Winery. I enjoyed their "Campfire Hootch."
We then make our way over the beautiful Mississippi River to Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. This year we stopped at multiple shops that we will remember for next year! Check's Antique Shop was a quaint little shop that has been open for almost 50 years; the people were very friendly and let us know what their plans were for next year! The Planted Tree Gallery & Gifts was a great little shop filled with items from (most) local vendors around the area. The Cannery was another great little gift shop filled with home decor items, candles, and much much more! They also had sweet treats like fudge! Yummy, I almost couldn't resist!
After Prairie Du Chien, it was apple picking time! We were disappointed that we didn't do more research last year because when we went, we didn't get to pick apples... Isn't that the whole point of going to an apple orchard?
Anyways, this year I researched and called to be sure. There are so many orchards in the area but the one that I know you can pick apples at is James Fleming Jr Orchard. There were rows upon rows of apple trees and the workers were overly nice. They do have prepicked apples for those who don't want to pick! They also have a little area where you can feed and pet goats. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip! Don't judge... :)
After picking our apples we went to Sunrise Orchards, which I call the "Apple Warehouse." I'm not kidding, this building is full of everything apple related. We, of course, bought Apple Cider Donuts, Apple Cider, and Caramel Apples! The views outside are beautiful and they do have benches where you can sit and enjoy the scenery.
After buying WAY too many donuts, we headed back home and went back through Prairie Du Chien. We stopped at Huckleberry's Family Restaurant. It was delicious!! The people were very nice and the food was amazing. I definitely recommend this place and we will be sure to go back!

My fall inspired top is from Dixie Magnolia Boutique.

2017 Fall Must-Haves

Is it already September?? Where has this year gone?! I'm not complaining, though. I put together some fall must-haves that will get you excited for warm, comfy sweaters and nights by a campfire!

1. Camel Colored Handbag. I have loved this color of bag for a long time and it works perfectly for fall with whatever style of bag you choose. Other colors that are great for fall season are maroon, black, and brown.

2. Essie Nail Polish. Who doesn't love warm nail colors during this time?? I absolutely love the dark maroons and beige colors.

3. Fall Welcome Mat. A fall welcome mat is a must. Just a simple mat at your door step adds a lot to a boring old porch. To make your porch even more appealing, add some pumpkins and mums along with your welcome mat!

4. Salted Caramel Mocha. I have never had a Salted Caramel Mocha, so I am ready for Starbucks to bring out their fall menu so I can try it for myself. I've heard great things about it! I've also wanted to try their pumpkin cheesecake bar... :)

5. Hunter Boots. These have been on my wishlist for a while now, but the fall weather is the perfect time to pull these back out!

6. Autumn 3-Wick Candle. About a year ago, I bought this candle for the first time and fell in love with it! It is my FAVORITE fall candle, and I can't get enough of it!

7. Floral Top. There have been so many floral tops that I have seen and fallen in love with! I think a warm floral design would be a great addition to anybody's closet.

College Class Must-Haves

It's that time of year again and school is about to start. It is FINALLY my last semester of school and I thought I would put together a College Class Must-Haves list. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, these items will make your college life a whole lot easier!

1. Laptop - There are always computers on campus, but having your own personal laptop makes homework and projects easier and more convenient. I have always had PCs but last year I decided to invest in an Apple MacBook and I absolutely love it! I continue to google "how to's" but once you get used to it, you will love it!

2. Planner - This is a MUST!! I don't know what I would do without a planner... During this time, my planner is like a lifeline.

3. Waterbottle - Staying hydrated is important and as a college student, it is something that is easily forgotten. Having a water bottle that you carry with you every day is very important.

4. Highlighters - I mostly use highlighters to study, but during lectures, they are nice to have if your professor states a topic is very important and it will be on your next test.

5. Pens/ Pencils - In college, all you do is take notes so pens and pencils are a must have.

6. Bag/ Backpack - The only way to carry all those textbooks and notebooks is with a bag. I like to go the easy route with a backpack, but if you like style, then there are multiple cute totes out there to hold your books.

7. Notebooks - Just like writing utensils, notebooks are a necessity. To keep everything in one spot, I use a 5-subject notebook and use each section for a class.

8. Laptop Case - A laptop case is worth investing in because you want to keep that expensive computer that has all your files on it safe!

9. Calculator - If you are a business student like me, you know how important a financial calculator is... I don't know what I would have done without one! If you aren't a business student, I would just recommend getting a cheap calculator just in case you ever need it!

DIY Wagon Wheel Chandelier

Items you will need:
Edison String Lights--You can use any string of lights. I just chose this one for the style it added.
Wood Wagon Wheel--This is a seasonal item, so K-Mart doesn't always have it. I also found a similar Wagon Wheel at At Home, but that also is a seasonal item. I have seen a lot of rustic, old wheels at local antique stores. You can always google Wood Wagon Wheel and see what is available near you.
Ball Mason Jars
Crystal Bead Strands (I bought 3 strands, but didn't use all of the third.)
Crystal Teardrop Pendants
Bronze Hanging Chain

The following items can be found at your local hardware store:

Staple Gun/Staples

Hammer

Screw Driver

Small Nails

Wire Cutters

Extension Cord

1)Prepare Mason Jar Lids

You need to make a hole in the lid so the light bulb can fit through. I used a screw driver to puncture a hole in the metal lid, then used wire cutters to make the hole bigger. You just need to make it big enough for the base of the light bulb to fit through it and screw onto the light strand.

2)Screw the Mason Jars on the Lights
Once you've made the holes on the lids, you will screw them onto the mason jars. When all 10 jars were attached to the lights, I plugged them in just to make sure they worked. (I would hate to get everything done and then find out the light strand doesn't work!)

3)Attach Lights to Wagon Wheel
This step takes a while, as you want the jars to be symmetrical. There are 10 lights on the strand; I strung 6 around the outside of the wheel, 3 in the middle, and 1 in the center (I used a larger mason jar in the center to make it stand out). When you think of a chandelier, you picture the middle one hanging the lowest; I didn't do that because you would see a lot of the chord, but if you find a way to hide it then I would make it hang the lowest! From here, you will staple the light strand to the wheel (be careful as you do not want to puncture a hole in the strand). The light closest to the plug-in is one of the 6 on the outside so it can go up the chain to be plugged into an extension cord.

4)Link the Chains to the Wheel
I made 3 chains that were the same length and placed them the same distance apart on the wheel. They will meet in the middle, where you will fasten them to a ceiling, pergola, etc.

5)Add the BLING

This is where you can make it your own and my FAVORITE part. Who doesn't love bling?? You can add a lot of bling or a little; it's up to you!! During this step, you want the beads to be symmetrical. I hammered little nails where I wanted the beads to hang. After hanging the strands, you add the pendants however you like and you're done!

6) Enjoy it!

I made my chandelier a while ago, but I am still in LOVE with it. I am so happy with how it turned out; everyone that has come over absolutely loves it!

TIP: One thing I encourage is to have an extra person to assist when needed, especially when hanging the chandelier.

Affordable Workout Apparel

I'm not going to lie, I wasn't a huge fan of the crazy, colored/patterned leggings that are everywhere but I've realized that they are for some reason a good motivator for hitting the gym. Having cute workout apparel is about the only thing that motivates me to get off my butt and workout, but everything is so dang expensive! I found 5 places that have workout apparel for a decent price so you can look cute while working out.

1. Forever 21

2. Old Navy

3. Target

4. H & M

5. Amazon

Another great place to look for great deals are clearance stores, such as a Nike Clearance Store. There are many Nike stores within outlet centers, but you have to be careful because the stores that have the good sales are the Nike Clearance Stores, not the Nike Factory Stores.

I also tried Fabletics for the first time! When you sign up for the VIP membership you can get 2 pairs of leggings for $24; that's only $12 a pair! You do have the option to cancel your VIP membership if you don't want a monthly subscription.

One other great place to look are apps, such as Poshmark and Mercari. These apps have a great selection of gently work clothing that are very affordable!
